Sustainability
A brownfield returned to the river, built to last.
A cleaner site, a greener river
Esplanade rebuilds 15 acres of post-industrial land into a neighborhood designed around the river, with sustainability commitments that run from the ground up.
A remediated brownfield
The site was cleaned up under Pennsylvania's Act 2 land recycling program, with state approval of the remediation, turning long vacant industrial land back into productive riverfront.
Water where it falls
Stormwater is treated on site with green infrastructure, including natural pools woven through the public green that double as interactive, educational landscape.
Energy and design
The project targets LEED certification. The Current carries solar across its facade and roof, and the district is planned around energy efficiency, carbon reduction, and multi modal mobility rather than car dependence.
A greener trail
The Three Rivers Heritage Trail through the site is rebuilt as a boardwalk style path with native plantings replacing invasive growth, and dedicated space for people walking and biking.
